TEHRAN-Two Iranian short films will be competing at the 30th edition of Slamdance Film Festival, which will be held in Park City, Utah, the U.S. 

“The Steak” by Kiarash Dadgar and “We are all Dogs” by Aminreza Alimohammadi will go on screen at the Narrative Shorts of the festival that will take place from January 19 to 25, 2024.

In the eight-minute flick “The Steak,” a birthday ceremony preparation gets upside down as something horrible takes place.

Dadgar, 29, has received his M.A. in dramatic literature from the Soore Art University of Tehran and worked on several projects in short films, series and theatrical productions. He has also worked as a producer in some short films, among which “Jouissance” was premiered at BUSAN International Film Festival (2022). 

“We are all Dogs” is about a happy family in a sad world, a world where there is no place for rejected creatures.

The 14-minute film tells the story of a young man and his grandmother, who face eviction from their apartment because of their beloved dog. With no income and a pet, they refuse to abandon, they struggle to find a new home. As their situation becomes increasingly dire, an unanticipated turn of events underscores the dehumanizing effect of poverty and the importance of love in overcoming adversity.

Aminreza Alimohammadi is known for his short drama “Snail” (2022). 

The Slamdance Film Festival has created a track record for showcasing breakthrough artists that is beyond dispute. Filmmakers who first presented their work at the festival are now amongst the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
